One of the very first places we visited when we joined the National Trust was Chartwell in Kent. Chartwell was the home of Sir Winston Spencer Churchill and a place where he spend many hours painting.
Many of his paintings can be viewed by visiting his studio where they hang with pride. On our summer visit we were lucky to be able to listen to the lecture about Sir Winston Churchill and his reasons for taking up painting.
If ever you get the chance to visit Chartwell, I highly recommend it as it is a wonderful to spend the day, and a lovely place to have a family picnic and plenty of space for the children to run around.
