Eventually, Well as you may have read we intended to go to Walmer Castle 3 weeks ago.. and when we arrived in Walmer it was closed so we headed for Deal Castle.
Our last two weekends have been taken up with that dreaded task of DIY.. Yes we decided to revamp our lounge and diner and of course that meant.. paint and papering… along with cleaning carpets and getting ready for new sofas.
Of course, we were expecting the weather to change.. you know the great British weather.. fine all week when everyone is at work and then pees it down over the weekend…
But we were lucky and the weather held for this weekend.
Unfortunately again, photographs can’t be taken in the house part of the castle.. which is rather a shame because some of the rooms are spectacular and I would have loved to capture them.
But we did manage to take some photographs within the grounds of the castle.
The above picture is of the wooden bridge that leads you to the gardens… Once you have visited the house, to get to the gardens you have to cross this bridge, over the moat part which is all laid to grass.
One of the gardens that you can view is the Queen Mother’s Garden.. it is a beautiful place, with a oblong pond which are covered in water lilies..
The picture below is of an arched seating area, which looks out onto the pond.. (I will post up later a picture of the pond looking back towards the sheltered seating area. Around the garden are benches which you can sit on and just enjoy the view and relax.
The gardens are full of flowers and there is also a kitchen garden where you can see vegetables, etc being grown and a greenhouse with hanging baskets full of tomatoes, all waiting to ripen.
One of the flowers that caught my eye, was this spectacular purple flower, that was blowing in the wind.
The intensity of the colours really struck me.
The above photo is of the wooden ramp that leads you down to the moat where you can walk around the entire circumference of the castle.
All in all we had a spectacular day… and I must admit, the Tea Rooms served an excellent cup of coffee and cheese scone..
