It was so lovely to get out last Monday, even though I didn’t walk far. However, I did send him off on an expedition down the locks at Allington, near Maidstone in Kent. The landscape was barren and the trees were still bare but you could see the start of spring slowly appearing in the landscaped area. Continue reading →
Whey hey, I am home from hospital. My right hip has been replaced and I can now walk without that excruciating pain. Taking it careful for the next 6 weeks to stop any chance of dislocation I am finding hard. However, I am so glad that awful pain has finally gone. I was only in hospital for 3 nights. And by Monday I felt good enough to have a little stroll along the banks of the River Medway at Allington Locks, near Maidstone in Kent. Continue reading →
It is Monday morning and I just can’t believe how fast the weekend went by… I am positive someone is stealing hours from the weekend…. they just seem to get shorter and shorter. Anyway the above photograph is one of a swan gliding up and down the River Medway at Allington Locks near Maidstone in Kent.
Normally I don’t apply filters when I post my photographs on Instagram but for this image I liked what colours one of the filters gave me… don’t ask which one it was because I simply can’t remember for certain… but I have a feeling it was Juno or something like that.
I liked how the filter gave the water a greenish tint..
My next photograph which I haven’t posted to Instagram yet is one of the Lighthouse at Dungeness in Kent.
Again this image was created using Topaz Texture Effects and Lightroom.. there were a lot of wires in the image so using Photoshop I cloned them out… and then from Photoshop I used a Topaz Texture Filter to enhance the sky and give the clouds some definition.
My last image for this morning comes from a trip we made on Saturday to Great Comp Garden near Sevenoaks in Kent.
Again this photograph was one where I used Topaz Texture Effects 2 and Lightroom… I am in the process of going through the photos we took on Saturday and will post them in due course.
I hope everyone had a good weekend, like we did, and that they were able to go happy snapping….
Allington Locks at Maidstone is one of those places that is lovely to visit when the sun shines. Set beside the River Medway, is the Malta Inn… which has a wonderful menu and a scrumptious desert menu… if I have to say so myself.
Many years ago when I visited Allington Locks, their was just a chain railing, but I suppose with kids running around it wasn’t deemed safe. But I can remember how it looked and how you could walk alongside the river bank towards Maidstone.

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Scale.”
Here in the South East of England, on St Patrick’s Day, the sun shone. It was a lovely day and it was definitely far too lovely to sit indoors. By luck hubby had the afternoon off and so we decided to take ourselves off to somewhere local to take some photographs. But where to go? Then I remembered a place we visited years ago by the River Medway called Allington Locks.
Down by the river is the Malta Inn, which of course had to be visited. Best part of photography, sampling the local pubs and restaurants. However, for the first time in years, I made a major error. I had been photographing some flowers indoors and raised my ISO to 200 and did the classic of not going back to ISO 100, which I normally shoot at.
Which caused a problem when I uploaded my pictures to Lightroom, they looked all washed out. Could just kick myself as it was beautiful there on this sunny afternoon.
But here is one that I did manage to rescue in Lightroom
And hubby managed to get this magnificent swan gliding down the River Medway towards the locks.
One thing we did find out though… was that there is a river cruise in the summer months, that takes you down the River Medway in the evening… will definitely have to book that up.. and of course to remember to have the correct settings on my camera before I start clicking away 😀 😀 😀
