Raindrops on Roses

Raindrops on Roses

Within the grounds of Chartwell House in Kent – the former home of the late Sir Winston Churchill – is the formal rose garden.. The rose garden was designed by Clementine Churchill’s close friend and cousin Venetia Montagu.  This photograph of a rose was taken just after there was a rain shower and the raindrops were still nestling on the delicate petals of the rose.

Originally I was going to leave the photograph in monochrome.. but as an experiment in Lightroom, after processing the photograph I hit the colour button on the HSL/Colour/B&W panel in Lightroom and I liked the tones and vibrancy of the yellow petals.

Reworking a yellow rose… yet again.

Reworking a yellow rose… yet again.

One thing I love about photography software, especially Lightroom, is that you can rework a photograph to give it a whole new meaning.  I first added this photo to this blog back in September 2014 and then decided to rework it using the features of Perfect Effects 9.

Today I wanted to restyle the photograph based on the same effects of a flower I posted yesterday…  I wanted the flower to appear less vibrant and I wanted it to be surround with a black background…  Here is the final result.. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Flowers of Chartwell

Flowers of Chartwell

Yesterday was not a good day… I woke up with a terrible sore throat and all shivery… I had been suffering from a cold the past week and thought it had cleared up… then yesterday it returned with a vengeance.  In fact I felt so bad, I cancelled my ‘Learning to drown with dignity’ lesson. Which didn’t take much to do 😀 😀

And then the weatherman came on the TV telling us that Sunday was going to be glorious, wall to wall sunshine… and I felt all disillusioned at the prospect of feeling ill and missing a day out.

Well today came, and I woke up feeling a whole lot better and that was it… out we were going.   Now where to go?  We wanted somewhere local, so decided to revisit Chartwell near Sevenoaks in Kent.

The sun was shining, but the flowers were being to die as the summer had now turned into autumn.  Mind you there were still some wonderful flowers that were still in bloom …. and here is a selection of them.  And today instead of using my usual Canon 55-250mm lens I decided to use our Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM  lens for close up shots of the flowers… I do love this lens… mind you it takes some getting used to… as you have to learn that you are the zoom and not the lens 😀 😀

Rose and bud..

Rose and bud..

Rose and bud..

The above picture was taken at Chartwell back in 2012. I just loved the way the raindrops stayed on that one petal.

Below is the original monochrome picture

IMG_2263.CR2

And the textures I used are:

Texture A

Texture A

13514043-dark-grey-natural-linen-texture-for-the-background

Texture B

I converted Texture A to grayscale and then added that as one layer.. then I rotated the image 90º and added it as another layer.  I then added Texture B as another layer.  I then played around with the various blending modes and the opacity of each layer until I reached the desired effect.

Applying texture to pictures gives a photograph a whole new dimension.  Wouldn’t yo u agree?
