Both of our visits to Doddington Place, this year and last year were Easter Time… and back in Spring 2015… the rhododendrons, magnolias and tree blossom were springing into life..

As summer fades here in the UK and we are heading towards Autumn and its wonderful fall colours… I think of those cold dismal winter days, were it rains and rains and rains some more… and how I wish spring would arrive.  I love winter on cold frosty mornings and the winter sun… I love the snow (if we ever get any) and how it changes everything… even barren untidy places start to glisten in the newly laid snow, but I hate the heavy rain and dark thunderous clouds… I don’t even mind if we have the odd light but constant rain… no thanks you can keep it.

Have a great weekend everyone…

Trees come to life…

Trees come to life…

The photograph of the above trees and the way their small wispy branches protrude from the trunks reminds me of the scene from Lord of the Rings – Two Towers, where the trees come to life.

I could just envisage those trees coming to life in the still of the night and moving around the wooded area of Doddington Place, near Sittingbourne, in Kent

As you stroll around Doddington Place near Sittingbourne in Kent.. you come across the formal gardens… once you have walked through the formal gardens and down some steps, you come across the rock garden which is set on the hillside.  Within the rock garden is a miniature water feature.  The above photograph was produced using Nik Software Color Efex and the image below is before  it was edited in Color Efex.  I love the golden tones of the above picture…

And in this edit I wanted to keep more of the natural greens..

Easter Monday at Doddington Place

Easter Monday at Doddington Place

Originally the weather wasn’t good for the South East of England when they gave the forecast out on Good Friday…  so we were expecting to spend Easter Monday huddled up indoors. But storm Katie passed through overnight and when we awoke… yes it was breezy but it wasn’t raining.

So of we trotted to Doddington Place near Sittingbourne in Kent.  As we travelled down some of the country roads to get there, we did come across a few fallen branches and huge puddles, but the wind was gradually easing and nothing was going to spoil our day.

The formal gardens are wonderful

And I do love the stroll to the Folly, which I was now struggling to make… but determination and a few rests I finally managed to see the wonderful Folly

The grounds were full of beautiful swathes of daffodils… and in amongst the wooded area stood this lovely little daffodil.  And by luck the wind had subsided so I could take its photograph.

Mind you when we came to leave, where we had parked, the ground was so sodden that we needed the friendly tractor man from Doddington to pull our car and a couple of other cars, who were also stuck, from the mud. Anyway hope you all had a wonderful Easter and a well-earnt rest….

I just can’t wait for spring to get here… one because the formal gardens in Kent start to open their doors and two because it will be a whole lot warmer than it is today. 😀 😀

The above photograph was taken at Doddington Place near Sittingbourne, Kent in April 2015… I just love the new shoots and blooms of spring.

Doddington Place… rocky water feature.

Doddington Place… rocky water feature.

Just the other day I received an email from Trip Advisor… as I have posted a couple of pictures on their site asking me if I knew how much it was to get into Doddington Place, near Sittingbourne in Kent.

I suppose the reason I was asked was because of the pictures.. any way to cut a long story short… I had a look through our Doddington Place photographs, after answering the question… and I just fell in love with one that is set within the woodland part and shows the rock water feature.. as well as the main house in the distance.

What I also loved is the reflection in the water …. you can see a clear reflection of the rocks and the clouds in the water… I loved the texture of the trees and I wanted to add a little more texture to the photograph to give it a Fine Art feel.

I did this in Photoshop… and then reimported the picture back into Lightroom and I then did some dodging and burning and enhanced the clarity of the rocks.  Even though the water feature is man-made I do think it added some character to the picture.

I love rocks and waterfalls, but unfortunately here in the South East of England… we don’t have such things… which is more the pity…  I do hope you enjoy our picture and it is of course on sale at Fine Art America.

The above picture was taken at Doddington Place, near Sittingbourne, Kent.  We had a wonderful day there, there was plenty to see and do… not just because it was Easter but simply because the grounds were spectacular and so picturesque.  The gardens were truly out of this world and I love the rock garden and how it was designed.

This photograph was processed in both Lightroom and Photoshop, by adding texture overlays and then masking out areas to lighten the impact of the overlay.  Finally it was re-imported back into Lightroom where a preset was applied and the values of that preset altered until I got the image that I was imagining.

This photograph was taken at Doddington Place near Sittingbourne, Kent…. and what I love about it is how the light shone through the wooded area.  Again this another photograph that has been textured using Photoshop and enhanced using Lightroom.
