WPC – It is easy being green.. when your a weeping willow tree

I must remember that the Weekly Photo Challenge set by WordPress has moved from Friday to Wednesday.. anyway this week’s topic is about being Green. Green is everywhere, in landscape and floral photography.. so this week’s images were easy to find. Especially when it came to a weeping willow tree.

My first two images are flowers where the stems and leaves are green..

Owl are you? An owl from Jambs Owls

Owl are you? An owl from Jambs Owls

Owl photographed at Jamb's Owls

Photograph of an owl taken at Hall Place in Bexley – Powder Paint Effect without Box Outline

Saturday was the first time in ages that I have been out and our little trip took us to Hall Place.  Anyway as we were leaving we saw a sign for Jambs Owls and decided to pay a visit.  Believe it or not the above photograph of this owl straight out of the camera was bland and boring even after cropping. Flowers from the greenhouse at Hall Place

Flowers from the greenhouse at Hall Place

A photograph of a vibrant orange and purple flower in the Greenhouse at Hall Place in Bexley

Saturday was so lovely being able to walk without excruciating pain in my hips and being able to visit places and above all being able to hold my camera and take photographs.  The flowers in the greenhouse of Hall Place in Bexley are exquisite to photograph.  Hubby took the above photograph of this beautiful orange and purple flower.  I couldn’t believe how large the blooms were. I’m back…. out and about with my camera

I’m back…. out and about with my camera

Bottle Brush Plant taken in the greenhouse of Hall Place in Bexley London.

Finally, life is getting back to some normality… and this weekend has been one of the best weekends in ages.  You see I am back out and about with my camera.  Still having to take things easy has meant my camera has sat in the bag and not seen the light of day for weeks.

This weekend has been filled with mixed emotions for me.  What with clearing my mum’s home and being able to get for the first time in ages with my camera. It has meant a lot of highs and lows over the last 48 hours. Continue reading →

Longing for spring…

Longing for spring…

A monochrome photograph of flowers taken at Hall Place in Kent

A monochrome photograph of Narcissus flowers taken at Hall Place in Kent

On a cold foggy morning like it is today… I long for spring.  We are only days into winter and it is cold, dank, miserable, grey.. and I am fed up with it already.  The clocks turned back and it seems to have sent the nice weather into never-never land.. never to be seen again.

I can handle the cold frosty mornings.. as long as the sun is shining.. but fog and this dismal weather, well to be perfectly honest, is totally depressing.

I long for spring.  Did I mention that? 😀 😀 😀

When the spring buds start to burst out of the ground.. and the hyacinths start to bud.

During our spring visit to Hall Place back in 2013, in the greenhouse was this beautiful bottle-brush plant..  I did have one of these plants in my garden… until two retrievers decided to retrieve it from the earth.

Did I tell you?… I long for spring!!!

The Vase – Take Six

The Vase – Take Six

Experimentation.. is the word here… And on one of the very many visits, we have taken to Hall Place, we decided to go into the house.. as we walked through the corridor.. sitting neatly on a windowsill was this vase full of flowers.  The original photograph was shot with a Panasonic Lumix FZ-48 camera…and was photographed in jpeg.

Sitting here today I decided to do some different editing techniques on this photograph… and my first was a ‘Western Looking’ edit, which gave a sepia toned, desaturated colour look to the photograph.

My next edit for this photograph was created in Topaz Texture Effects 2.. and I wanted a grunge looking feel to the photograph… with a lot of texture.

My third edit was a washed looking feel .. kind of edit…

And for my fourth edit.. I decided to do a monochrome edit.

For my fifth edit… I stayed with a monochrome theme and lightened the photograph up to create a soft high key sort of image.

I think the above two black and white photographs.. would also be good submissions into Cee’s Black and White – Looking through a Window Photograph Challenge.

And for my last edit.. I chose a colour edit with rays of sunlight coming through the window..

All the above photographs were created using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, except for the one which was created in Topaz Texture Effects 2.  The powers of Lightroom are phenomenal, and in this experiment I think my favourite two are the High Keyed Black and White and the Western Looking Edit. Do you have a favourite? And if so why?
