For quite a while I have been wondering what to do with the above picture… I have tried adding texture to it and just didn’t like it.  But something was missing with the coloured version… so it has been sitting in Lightroom, in my collection of ‘Possible Website Photos’.  The today inspiration struck me…. what can Topaz Adjust 5 do to this picture.  Well that was it, off to Photoshop it went to get rid of a couple of annoying features, like the lifebuoy by the wooden standing platform on the lake.  And a sign post by the tree.

Once those bits were corrected I played around with the levels and curves and then edited the photograph in Topaz Adjust 5… I decided to use the Grunge B and W Preset and that was it… once I played around with the sliders, I then reimported the photograph back into Photoshop, where I saved it and it was then automatically reimported into Lightroom.

As must as I love the grunge effect on the buildings and the trees… I didn’t like what it did to the sky.  So with my adjustment brush and the clarity slider set to -100 and the noise level set 100, I then painted over the sky with gave it a softer sheen look.

Once I did that I added a few radial filters to highlight certain areas… then when completely satisfied I then added a vignette. But none of the above would have been achievable if I hadn’t cropped the picture to take out some of the landscape and focus more on the house.

It is really surprising, how you can sit there for days, if not weeks, liking a photograph but not knowing what to do with it… when suddenly the inspiration of what you want to achieve enters your head.

Salomons Hotel

Salomons Hotel

The above photograph was taken back in July 2015 and is of Salomons Hotel on the Salomons Estate in Royal Tunbridge Wells. What I love about the grounds is that you are free to walk around the grounds even if you are not a paying guest at the hotel. The gardens are well kept and maintained and there are many hidden treasures to the gardens, including a pond and a lake. Salomons Estate is a very popular wedding venue… and I can see why.  It is such a beautiful place, with picturesque surroundings and sits on a Kentish hillside.

Salomons Estate

Salomons Estate

I really must be going through a monochrome phase at the moment 😀 😀 It seems the last lot of photographs I have processed I have added a black and white feel to them.  And for today’s photograph again I have gone for a monochrome feeling.  Well to be honest I wanted to do a colour version of this photograph… but somehow no matter what I did, I couldn’t get what I wanted.

I tried the old trick… of processing it… leaving it a few hours and then coming back and seeing what more I could do…. but alas no.  I couldn’t get the right look.  So I stuck with the monochrome version.

The above picture was taken at Salomons Estate near Tunbridge Wells and it was taken at the second lake that you come to as you walk through the grounds.  You can see the hotel on the hillside and the towers just peering above the trees.  It is a beautiful estate to walk around and it is free to enter.

As you enter the estate literally on the left by the entrance is a building which is the museum  which is free to enter.  We didn’t go in this time but we definitely will on our next visit.

Anyway back to the photograph… once I processed the above photograph… I did wonder what it would look like if I added some texture.  Of course this processing was carried out in Photoshop and the final adjustments again made in Lightroom.

I like both photographs as each give a different perspective to the photograph, and couldn’t decide which one I liked the best… so I posted both of them.

Weeping Willow Tree

Weeping Willow Tree

One of the photographers I follow, on WordPress, Facebook and Google+ is Laura Macky. I just love her photographs… and during one of our conversations… and God knows I can’t remember where, we were talking about trees.  And Laura said how she loved weeping willow trees.

Today I was going through some collections I have in Lightroom… where I colour tag photographs that could be a possible website entries.  When I happened to stumble across the above photograph, which was taken at Salomons Estate back in July 2015, which is located just 2 miles outside Royal Tunbridge Wells.  It was one of the first photographs I took with my new camera…. and I was just getting used to using it… so apologies if it is not up to scratch… but I like it anyway.

The photograph was taken as you walked down to the one of the ponds.  And I just love how young this tree is compared to the thick trunks of the other trees that surround it.  Salomons Estate is in fact a hotel… and it is a lovely place to walk around.  You don’t have to be a guest to enjoy the estate.  It it set on a hillside with two lakes, a wooded area… and beautiful greens.

Anyway as I was processing this photograph I was thinking of Laura and how she likes weeping willow trees…  I do hope she enjoys this one.

High Rocks…. woodland walk

High Rocks…. woodland walk

Don’t you just hate it when you can’t sleep?  There I was tossing and turning and finally decided that the best place for me was up.. but what do you do at 4 am in the morning?  Well the obvious thing for me to do was process a photograph. So I went through my old photographs and found one that was taken at High Rocks near Tonbridge Wells in Kent.

What I love about this photograph is how the leaves made the path.. albeit it bit slippery in the damp weather and how the trees seemed to guide you through the woodland.

I added some graduated filters to give the picture a warm rich autumn tone….

Salomon’s Estate

Salomon’s Estate

The weather was atrocious on Friday in Kent… real monsoon weather and even though the forecast was for it to clear up by Saturday morning… how it was raining left you with the impression that this abysmal weather is in for the weekend…. What luck we had when we awoke on Saturday morning, and even though the temperatures had dropped and it was breezy… it was dry.

So off we went… heading towards Royal Tunbridge Wells, and a place called Salomon’s Estate.  Set in the countryside and on a hillside… the hotel, which is renowned for its weddings stood up on the hillside overlooking woodland and a wonderful lake.

Taken by Bren Ryan

You can see why people want to get married there… it is beautiful.

To walk around the estate in free and there is plenty of parking.

With its two lakes, one with a picturesque wooden bridge, there is beauty in every corner of this wonderful estate.

The woodland paths were a bit slippery and he had his camera already to get me flat on my rear as I slid down the paths at times… but I managed to stay on my feet… didn’t do my knees much cop as I tried to retain my balance but the stroll was beautiful.  And the grasses and woodland flowers were a delight to photograph.

So if ever you are in Royal Tunbridge Wells, I highly recommend Salomon’s Estate to take a stroll around.

First rhododendron bloom of spring…

First rhododendron bloom of spring…

Taken today to Dunorlan Park, near Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent.  It is the first rhododendron bloom I have seen this spring.  When we visited High Rocks the other weekend, there were plenty of buds waiting to bloom but today was the first one to be photographed by me this year.

Dunorlan Park

Dunorlan Park

As many of you know we are members of the English Heritage and National Trust organisations, but there are times when you just want to go somewhere picturesque and that doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg to get into.  Well we found a nice place today, Dunorlan Park, near Tunbridge Wells.

Although the weather was cold, dank and bloody miserable, (well there is no surprise there as it is the Easter holidays 😀 😀 and you can gather rotten weather on a bank holiday weekend that is for sure), but that wasn’t going to stop us… mind you I wished I had wrapped up warmer.

It is an ideal place to walk the dogs, (which there were many dog walkers around) and a perfect place for children to run around, feed the ducks and play on the vast amount of lawns.  There is also the opportunity to take a picnic and they have a cafe there, serving lovely bacon sandwiches and coffee. 😀 😀 😀 That I can vouch for. 😀 😀
